Imagine you have 5 outdated houses on the seawall of Nieuwpoort. What should you do with that? To bring color to the municipality, Nieuwpoort project developer Condius, known for its high-quality architecture and sustainable designs, teamed up with All About Things, t known for the leading Street Art Festival in Ostend.

While waiting for a new project at that location, Condius and All About Things wanted to brighten up the 5 facades. But what exactly did the coastline need?

“We wanted to break with the static and gray environment,” says Bjørn Van Poucke of All About Things. "But we also wanted the shapes in art to be organic enough to connect with the wind, waves and dunes of our coastline." So they appointed Oli-B, a Brussels artist whose bright, positive colors balance each other. His sleek, figurative yet organic compositions are a nod to nature. He connects the 5 houses by allowing his characteristic colors to run across different facades. In 7 days he transformed the facades in Nieuwpoort together with a few assistants into a striking work of art that you can clearly recognize from the sea.

Stel, je hebt 5 verouderde huisjes op de dijk van Nieuwpoort. Wat doe je daar dan mee? Om kleur te brengen in de gemeente, ging Nieuwpoorts projectontwikkelaar Condius, die bekendstaat om haar kwalitatief hoogstaande architectuur en duurzame ontwerpen, in zee met The Crystal Ship, de curator bekend van het Street Art Festival in Oostende.

In afwachting van een nieuw project op die plek, wilden Condius en The Crystal Ship de 5 gevels opfleuren. Maar wat had de kuststrook precies nodig?

“We wilden de statische en grijze dijk doorbreken”, zegt Bjørn Van Poucke van The Crystal Ship. “Maar we wilden ook dat de vormen in de kunst organisch genoeg waren om een verbinding te maken met de wind, de golven en de duinen van onze kustlijn.” The Crystal Ship stelde Oli-B aan, een Brussels kunstenaar wiens felle, positieve kleuren elkaar in balans houden. Zijn strakke, figuratieve en toch organische composities zijn een knipoog naar de natuur. Hij verbindt de 5 huisjes door zijn kenmerkende kleuren over verschillende gevels te laten doorlopen. In 7 dagen tijd toverde hij de gevels in Nieuwpoort samen met een paar assistenten om tot een opvallend kunstwerk dat je ook vanop zee duidelijk herkent.
