A celebration of the heart and soul of Ilford Lane through textiles. The Weaver honours a legacy woven from resilience, creativity, and community spirit.

Born from community workshops and consultations in Ilford, this mural channels the rich textile heritage of the lane—from its famed South Asian bridal and formalwear traditions to the historic rag trade that empowered countless local women.

The Weaver reimagines the universal archetype found in mythologies across the globe. Drawing inspiration the legends of from Arachne, the Fates and Frigg and celestial weavers like Nuit and Zhi Nü, this piece is a tribute to every thread woven together in our shared history.

Infused with the lyricism of W.B. Yeats and his heavens embroidered cloths and the cosmic loom that symbolizes interconnected destiny, The Weaver transforms that dream into a tangible, urban tapestry of hope and heritage.

Dedicated to all the women of Ilford Lane—their daughters, mothers, ancestors, kin, and allies—The Weaver is a tribute to the power of tapestry of narratives that interlace to form and empower our communities.
