A large mural unveiled on the Dotterbloemflat in Assen, part of the national Museum Murals project. This initiative, set up by the Mauritshuis, brings artworks from Dutch museum collections to public locations in twenty cities. The mural in Assen, designed by street artist Nina Valkhoff, was inspired by works from the collection of the Drents Museum.
Valkhoff worked on this mural at the Vredeveld shopping centre for two weeks. She was particularly inspired by the graceful shapes and golden details in the work of metal artist Johanna van Eijbergen, specifically her design of a brass dish with bullheads and eels. Valkhoff also incorporated the Boerhoorn by Wijster and references to flowers from the work Geranium by Julie de Graag and Onkruidgebrandde boer by Vincent van Gogh.
By bringing art outside, Museum Murals aims to make art more accessible to the public, far away from traditional museum walls. These murals are a vibrant part of Dutch cities, bringing art to life in the middle of residential areas, enriching the daily lives of residents and passers-by.
