In 2021, leading into 2022, I undertook a six-month full-time mural artist contract with Wodonga City Council. This experience required me to manage every aspect of the project from start to finish. This included paperwork, securing permits, designing, confirming the vision, sourcing materials, and completing the painting itself, along with all the additional tasks necessary to bring a large-scale mural to life. During this time, I created the piece "Red Crimson," which became one of the 10 iconic murals in Wodonga.
The inspiration for "Red Crimson" came from my exploration of Wodonga's beautiful native flora and fauna. Among the many remarkable species, the Red Crimson Rosella stood out. Initially, the clients weren't entirely sure what they wanted, and the wall itself posed a unique challenge due to the large window displays. I proposed the idea of a striking focal point—a large Rosella—fitting perfectly within the space, and the clients loved the concept. After a few minor color adjustments, we moved forward with hiring access equipment, cleaning and priming the wall, and finally bringing the mural to life with spray paint. The end result was met with an incredibly positive reception, helping the mural become a beloved landmark in the heart of Wodonga.
You can find the "Red Crimson" mural at the entrance of Liverpool Lane, located on the wall of "The Little Lane Cafe" in the town center.
