Light is Coming from the Left

NEDERLANDS - Deze muurschildering toont twee geometrische vormen naast elkaar. Het lijkt alsof een fel wit licht de objecten beschijnt. De zwarte slagschaduw aan de rechterkant geeft de indruk dat dit licht van links komt. Deze zwarte schaduw heeft nog een tweede functie. Ze oefent druk uit op het rechter object waardoor het buigt. De twee geometrische vormen zitten als het ware geklemd tussen de uiteinden van het schilderij.
Het geheel is een spel van geometrie, abstractie en kleur. Dit werk is bedoeld om rust te brengen in een chaotische samenleving.

Gijs Coenen is een Belgische kunstenaar gevestigd te Vilvoorde. Binnen zijn praktijk onderzoekt hij spel. Coenen creëert sculpturen die half beeldhouwwerk, half speeltuig zijn. Naast dit sculpturaal werk past hij spel toe als een methode. Coenen speelt met vorm, kleur, contrast en herkenbaarheid om tot schilderijen te komen die het oog tot rust brengen. 

ENGLISH - This mural shows two geometric shapes next to each other. It appears as if a bright white light illuminates the objects. The black drop shadow on the right gives the impression that this light comes from the left. This black shadow has a second function. She applies pressure to the right object, causing it to bend. The two geometric shapes are, as it were, wedged between the ends of the painting. The whole is a play of geometry, abstraction and color. This work is intended to bring peace to a chaotic society. Gijs Coenen is a Belgian artist based in Vilvoorde. Within his practice he investigates play. Coenen creates sculptures that are half sculpture, half toy. In addition to this sculptural work, he uses play as a method. Coenen plays with shape, color, contrast and recognisability to create paintings that soothe the eye.
