This traffic signal box is part of the Craigieburn Road Legacy Art trail
As part of the Craigieburn Road Upgrade, Major Road Projects Victoria worked with local artists and the community to reimagine and reinvent public spaces through a signal box art trail.
Local artists were invited to contribute to a vibrant art trail featuring 30 traffic signal cabinets along Craigieburn Road. Each piece of public art tells the story of "What makes Craigieburn unique," serving as the main theme of the art installation. The artwork also celebrates sub-themes such as community, connection, travel, history, culture, diversity, environment, nature, and sustainability.Lisa Buckland’s artistic practice revolves around nature and the connections within it. Over the past five years, she has primarily worked with acrylics, watercolours, and ink, and has moved into using digital mediums, such as Procreate on her iPad, to create vibrant pieces that explore these themes.
Drawing on her background as a graphic designer, Lisa’s understanding of colour and composition informs her work, while her painting and mark-making techniques are influenced by her study of Japanese calligraphy and the use of Asian brushes.
Deeply connected to the Craigieburn community, Lisa has showcased her artwork in several exhibitions over the last four years, including the Town Hall Broadmeadows Gallery, Crown Street Stables in Flemington, and the Hume Global Learning Centre in Sunbury.
This work is titled "Urban Birds".
You hear them, before you see them. Parrots and magpies are everywhere in our urban environments. Craigieburn was once full of river red gums and local corellas are so loud when the flock takes off. Galahs are quiet with a soft call. Unobtrusive and sweet. The call of a magpie makes you smile. We live with these sounds every day as we go about our busy lives. Just listen.
